Transforming a flexible inflatable raft into a solid, stable watercraft with a custom-engineered folding floorboard.
Challenger
Inflatable rafts are ideal for easy storage and transport, but soft, flexible floors make standing, gear loading, and balancing on the water difficult. Our client needed a durable floorboard insert to create a firm, flat surface inside the raft. However, the solution had to fold down small enough to fit inside a trunk alongside the deflated boat without adding unnecessary bulk, sharp edges, or heavy setup friction.

Precision Custom Woodworking & Safe Installation
We brought custom woodworking tools and materials directly to the project to engineer a tailored floorboard system. Here is how we handled the build:
Custom Contour Measuring: We measured the exact interior floor dimensions and curved contours of the raft so the board sits snugly against the inflatable pontoon walls without shifting.
Precision Cutting & Hardware Integration: Using a jigsaw, we shaped the high-density plywood panels to match the boat’s outline. Heavy-duty inset hinges were installed to allow the board to fold flat for transport and unfold smoothly inside the boat.
Marine Fabric Protective Wrapping: To protect the soft PVC material of the boat from wood splinters or sharp hardware, we wrapped and securely stapled all panels in weather-resistant marine-grade fabric.

The finished foldable floorboard drops seamlessly into the raft, giving the client a firm, stable deck for fishing, rowing, and navigating the water. When the day is done, it folds back up cleanly in seconds for easy trunk storage—giving the client total stability without sacrificing portability!
